16-17 So don’t put up with anyone pressuring you in details of diet, worship services, or holy days. All those things are mere shadows cast before what was to come; the substance is Christ.
18-19 Don’t tolerate people who try to run your life, ordering you to bow and scrape, insisting that you join their obsession with angels and that you seek out visions. They’re a lot of hot air, that’s all they are. They’re completely out of touch with the source of life, Christ, who puts us together in one piece, whose very breath and blood flow through us. He is the Head and we are the body. We can grow up healthy in God only as he nourishes us. Colossians 2:16-19
Religion = man made rules. Jesus Christ didn’t die to give you more rules. Yes boundaries are important to protect us from chaos and sometimes from ourselves but the rules shouldn’t oppress us. Christ died to give us freedom over sin and freedom to have a relationship with Him. Ask Him! Make your own decision and wait to listen for His reply! He will speak to you through the Word, dreams, music, sermons, nature.. .. a hundred different ways. God is the ultimate communicator. He desires to talk to you all day every day, it is you that choses not to listen when you don’t like his response.
Ask Him about the music you listen to, ask Him about tattoos and that plastic surgery you hoping for. He will reply and when He does listen and obey. If He says no, then no it is. If He says yes, then enjoy no matter what people will think. You will get criticized either way.
There will be people on both sides telling you that you are wrong but you must stay firm to what God to you. Be sure before you make a move that it was Him and not your desire.
Note: what might be ok for you, may not be ok for others and vice-versa. This concept is very difficult to understand to people who think everything has to be “fair”. They assume they know God’s definition of fair. IF God was fair, we’d all be in hell, because that’s what we deserved. Let God be God.
Be free, to have a relationship with Him. A back and forth, deep communication, give and take relationship. You don’t need someone dictating your every move in order to be a good Christian.
Yes we need mentors and leaders who have deep relationships with Christ. They wont make it about themselves or their rules. They will guide you to Christ every time. They wont control you, they will teach you to make decisions on your own. They know you wont always get it right, but they will guide you to the correct answer with grace and love.
BE FREE!!! IT COST CHRIST HIS LIFE!!!!!
